How You Can Help
If you are interested in helping your community during emergencies and planned events, consider becoming an OEM volunteer. With a minimum committment of 4 hours/month and CERT training, you can participate in a variety of OEM units and activities. Some highlighted OEM areas are:
Strategic Planning
- Administration - includes such activities as project management, marketing, fundraising, training, distribution centers.
- Shelters - temporarily meets the needs for housing, food, water, health and personal care crucial to survival in an emergency or disaster.
- Logistics - includes such activities as identifying, acquiring, and dispatching resources (personnel, equipment, supplies) during an incident.
Operations
- Communications - ensures that during an emergency, all communications systems (phones, radios, computers) are operational, and calls are answered.
- Dive - comprised of skilled certified public safety divers in various types of underwater rescue and recovery efforts.
- Emergency Medical Serivces (EMS) - comprised of EMT's and certified First Responders who provide first aid treatment at various community events and during disasters.
- Rescue Support - provides temporary generators and pumps, chainsaw and debris clean-up during emergencies or disasters.
- Mobile Canteen (REHAB) - provides food, drink, and comfort to emregency personnel and victims at multiple alarm fires and other major incidents.
Crime Prevention
- Auxiliary Police - comprised of trained volunteers that assist the Leominster Police Department.
- Neighborhood Watch - provides training and resources to residents who want to prevent crime in their neighborhood.
